The Gambia Marathon is not your average race. This is an opportunity to visit, connect with, and support grassroots projects lead by the Gambia Volunteers Trust and leave a powerful impact on the local community. People come from around the world to run in one of the biggest and most exciting international races in West Africa, but also to volunteer, meet the locals (people and wildlife!), and make life-long friends.
The 42k race route (also with 5 & 10k options) combines the most beautiful scenery in rural Gambia. Taking place along the Trans-Gambia Highway, runners pass bushes, hills and villages, where hundreds of villagers cheer them on.
About The Gambia
The Gambia is a small West African country, bordered by Senegal, with a narrow Atlantic coastline, only six hours direct flight from the UK. The Gambia is very peaceful and known for her sandy beaches and diverse ecosystem around the central Gambia River. There is abundant wildlife in its Kiang West National Park and BaoBolong Wetland Reserve, which has monkeys, leopards, hippos, hyenas and rare birds.
